What moves the price of a business website?
The look of the site is the small part of the bill. The cost sits in the number of different layouts, the words on them and the connections behind each form.
| Cost driver | What it means | Effect on the price |
|---|---|---|
| Number of page types | A page type is a layout: home, service, case study, article, landing page. Twenty service pages on one layout count as one page type. | Lower with a few layouts. Higher with each new one to design, build and test. |
| Who writes the copy | Either you hand over finished words, or we interview you and write them. | Lower when your copy is ready. Higher when we write it. |
| CRM and booking connections | A form that creates a contact with an owner in your CRM, and a calendar that takes bookings on the page. | Lower for a form that sends an email. Higher for connections that pass data both ways. |
| Tracking | Knowing which page and which advert produced each enquiry. | Lower for visit counts only. Higher when each enquiry is tracked from its source through to a sale. |
| Moving an existing site | Every old page address is mapped to a new one and redirected, so search engines and old links still land somewhere useful. | Lower for a new site with no history. Higher for a site with hundreds of indexed pages. |
How to keep it down: count your page types before the first call and decide who is writing. Those two answers narrow the range faster than anything else.
Which of our solutions would you be buying?
A website project draws on up to three of our solutions. The scope says which ones you need.
- Websites. The main site: the pages a visitor reads before deciding to get in touch, each with one clear next step.
- Funnels and landing pages. Single-purpose pages for one advert or campaign, with one offer and one action, so paid clicks do not land on a general home page.
- CRM setup and migration. Scoped alongside the site when enquiries currently arrive in an inbox with no owner and no next step.
For MRM Group, a UK property development and investment company, we built a public funnel connected to their CRM, in front of an internal system for clients, deals and tasks. The MRM Group case study shows what was built. We publish build details for it, not results.
The three costs to budget for
Website quotes often blur these together. Keep them apart, because only the first one is paid to us by default.
- The one-off build. £5,000 to £20,000, paid 50% upfront and 50% on launch. The site is built in your own accounts, and you own the code and the data.
- Running costs. Hosting and software are paid directly to the providers from your accounts. We list each one in the written scope, so you see them before you commit.
- Optional support. Run & Improve is £1,000, £2,000 or £4,000 a month, with a three-month minimum and then 30 days notice. Your team can run the site without it.
When a cheaper website builder is enough
A template on a website builder, paid as a small monthly subscription, is the right call when:
- You need a handful of pages that say who you are, what you do and how to reach you.
- The site's job is to confirm you exist after a referral, not to win enquiries from search or adverts.
- Your offer is still changing month to month. Settle it first, then build around it.
- You have no CRM or booking system for the site to connect to yet.
The trade-off is that you rent the site, and you work within the layouts and connections the builder offers. Our guide to custom software versus subscription software covers that choice in more depth. If a builder fits, we will tell you on the first call.
Why a range now and a fixed price later?
Before the audit we have not seen your current site, your page list or the tools behind your forms. An exact figure at that point would be a guess, so we give the range and say where you are likely to sit in it.
The paid audit costs £3,000 plus VAT (US $5,000). It maps how the business runs, the tools it uses and where work gets stuck, and the written report arrives within 10 working days.
The written scope follows. It lists the page types, connections, permissions and success measures, and it carries one fixed price and an agreed timeline. We do not quote a build time before that scope exists. Each stage is set out in our approach.
What is the leak worth? Do the sum
The leak: "People visit, have a look and leave without getting in touch." This is the more clients lever. The site already has visitors, and too few of them become enquiries.
The mechanism: each page answers one search or one advert, and opens with the answer the visitor came for. It offers one action, enquire or book. The form creates a contact with an owner in your CRM, and tracking records which page produced it.
| Step | Example figure | Running total |
|---|---|---|
| Visitors a month | 500 | 500 visitors |
| Share who enquire | 1 in 100 | 5 enquiries a month |
| Share who become clients | 1 in 5 | 1 client a month |
| Value of a client | £1,500 | £1,500 a month |
| Over a year | 12 months | £18,000 a year |
Example figures. Swap in your own. On these figures 495 visitors a month leave without a word, and each extra enquiry a month is worth £3,600 a year. That is arithmetic, not a result, and we do not promise a change in your enquiry rate.
What to count: visitors last month from your analytics, enquiries that came through the site, how many became clients, and what a client is worth in their first year. You can work out your own figure with our ROI calculator. Bring it to the call. The audit report then prices each problem it finds.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a business website cost in the UK?
With us, a scoped build is £5,000 to £20,000, and larger projects are priced separately. We have no narrower band for websites alone. Page types, copy and connections decide where you land.
Can I get a fixed price on the first call?
No. You get a range on the call. The fixed price comes with the written scope, after the audit has looked at your current site and tools.
Do I own the website when it is finished?
Yes. It is built in your own accounts. You own the code and the data, and you can take it to another developer.
Will I lose search rankings when my site moves?
Nobody can guarantee rankings. Mapping every old address to a new page and redirecting it lowers the risk, and that mapping is priced into the scope when you have an existing site.
How long does a website build take?
The timeline is agreed in the written scope. We do not estimate it earlier, because it depends on page types, copy and how quickly feedback comes back.
Is the audit fee on top of the build price?
The audit is credited against the build when the build deposit is paid within 14 days of the report. After that window it is a separate fee.
Do I have to take monthly support?
No. Support is optional. We train your team and hand over documentation at launch, so you can run the site yourselves.
